The Greedy Cobra and the King Frog

The Greedy Cobra and the Frog King

  • In a marshy pond, there lived a wise and noble frog king named Virasena. He ruled over a large population of frogs, ensuring their safety and prosperity. One day, a greedy cobra named Vasuki arrived near the pond and began to eat the frogs.

  • The frogs were terrified and approached their king for help. Virasena, with his wisdom, decided to speak with Vasuki and find a peaceful solution. He asked Vasuki why he was harming his subjects.

Vasuki confessed that he was hungry and had nowhere else to find food. The frog king then offered Vasuki a peaceful resolution. He proposed that Vasuki could eat one frog each day, chosen by a lottery system. In this way, the cobra would have a steady source of food without decimating the frog population.

Vasuki agreed to the proposal, and the lottery began. Each day, a frog willingly offered itself to be eaten by the cobra to save the others. Vasuki soon grew tired of this arrangement and realized the value of peace and unity. He left the pond, never to return.
